Yesterday I was watching one of Casey Neistat's daily video blogs, where he referenced a video of Steve Jobs from the year 1996. In the video, Steve Jobs said something that left quite an impression on me. He said,
“When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That's a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it… Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.”
Steve Jobs also said, "I want to make a dent in the universe." And as we know that's exactly what he did.
If you've read Job's biography, you will know that he lived with this unique mentality from quite an early age. He learned that life wasn't just a rulebook to follow, but that it was his own book to write.
As I've launched my own business, I've slowly begun to learn this lesson for myself. I've learned that each of us have the ability to create a better situation, a better life for ourselves. For example, who would have known six months ago that I would now own an office and run a company with 8 other team members? Yes, there are still days when I wake up wondering what the hell I'm doing, but I've learned to just keep pushing forward. I am confident that if I do, with a resilience and passion for creating something unique and wonderful, it will happen.
I want these blogs to be more than a rant, but rather a raw, authentic look into what I believe and into some of the lessons I've learned.
Real quick before you close this window...do one thing for me.
- Ask yourself the three most important things in your life right now.
- Make a list of one actionable point for each that you are going to do this week to help you get there.
- Just Do It.
Don't let others determine who YOU will be.
